[ most people would see the strange arrivals as an imposition. and loki does to some degree. that being said, he’s more than willing to turn that problem into a business opportunity. show that he’s open and welcoming. throw in a little extra money to establish the theater as a prominent spot in this world. the doors are open, fees are reduced. and if you’re not interested in catching a play, you might want to stop by the steps where there are a few vendors selling cotton candy, ice-cream sandwiches and beer to passersby and there are a few street performers there to catch your attention, whether they’re juggling fire balls, doing magic tricks or simply playing a pianoforte on the steps of the opherium. ]
( ii. the curtain rises )
[ for this month, loki is running a bunch of shakespearean plays. hamlet, macbeth, the twelfth night . . . you name it, it’s probably running. during the intermissions, there’s an open bar for you to rub elbows with the other patrons, maybe discuss your favourite part of the play. enjoy the arts so to speak. if you catch the really late night shows, you might find that your favourite plays might . . . turn out a little differently. like the trees are real in macbeth. that the ghosts move through the audience, sending chills down your spine. but the experience is still worth it. or is it?
or perhaps, you might need some alone time after a show, wanting to catch the infamous view of the city from the opherium's balcony. the choice is yours. ]
( iii. something wicked this way comes )
[ the theater keeps up odd hours. its productions run late into the night. and sometimes, you might feel the urge to linger and explore. after all, it’s strange to hear that a god of mischief is running a theater these days. almost suspicious even! so you might be wandering the halls, ears and eyes peeled to hear anything that might be unusual.
and you might just get your wish. a ghostly murmur, the flicker of a shadow against the pane of glass, statues that seem to be unnerving with their gaze upon you . . . is there something really there or are you just imagining things? ]

She notices him before she notices his drawing, and laughs in disbelief as she steps over to look at his work.]
Are you trying to say I have a bad side?
[That's a joke. She knows she does.]
no subject
No, just that I got the good one.
no subject
I'm pretty sure that's saying I have a bad one.
[If she's offended, she doesn't seem to let it show. Instead she looks over his work one more time. It's cartoony, but...it actually doesn't make her look bad.]
But thanks for not making my nose too big or my teeth look weird.
no subject
[ and he may not have gone in the big ear route, but he sure did exaggerate that ponytail. ]
And you're welcome. Least I could do for a pretty girl.
no subject
I think the least you could do is let me have the picture once you're done.
[Pause. She's a little worried that might be rude.]
I'm sorry! It's just that it's really good! I want to hang it on my wall.
no subject
Uh, sure. I'll even sign it for you, if you want.
no subject
I'd really like that, um —
[Her head tips to the side as she looks him over.]
What's your name, anyway? I'm Chrissy.
no subject
It's Kyle. Kyle Rayner.
[ and he puts his signature at the bottom of the sketch before gently tearing the page out and handing it to her. ]
Remember the name when I'm famous.
no subject
You know, I think it might be hard to forget an artist that called me pretty.
[But his name is signed at the bottom, so she'll definitely never forget it. She almost moves to get up, thinking he's ready to move on to someone else. But this is the first conversation outside of her friends from Hawkins that she's had, and she's pretty proud of herself for it not feeling like it's too much to handle.]
Do you think I could draw you?
[She asks it out of nowhere, nodding over toward his sketchbook.]
no subject
Sure. We can have ourselves a little art trade.
no subject
You'll have to hold onto mine.
[Sitting down next to him, she hands over the drawing he made, and waits for the sketchbook and pencil. She's definitely not an artist, so this will be an adventure. But she's determined to try her best.]
How long have you been drawing?
no subject
Ever since I was a kid and saw Bugs Bunny on the TV screen. It was a formative experience.
no subject
Eyes looking from him down to the paper, she really tries to focus on her sketch. Art isn't as easy as it looks.]
I know exactly what you mean, Doc.
[He's a Bugs Bunny fan, he'll appreciate that.]
I remember when I was little and I watched the 1974 Olympics. I wanted to be a gymnast so badly, I begged my mom to let me take classes.
no subject
Gymnast, huh? I knew a few of those. It's taxing but I hear it's also incredibly rewarding.
no subject
I wouldn't know.
[Which is a little let down after her lead in, but she's not trying to be impressive here.]
I wound up in cheerleading instead. But I got to be a flyer on the squad.
[That's close enough to gymnastics that she doesn't have any regrets.
She finishes off the rest of her quick sketch, the tip of her tongue sticking out as she concentrates on making it look decent. Which it really doesn't, because it's her first attempt at drawing a person ever. But she's really tried! She signs her name at the bottom before handing the sketchbook back over to him.]

no subject
[She laughs, trying to look surprised and mock offended.]
I really tried my best! I think it deserves a frame.
no subject
No, no, not bad! I would say unique. Style always is.
no subject
You could teach me how to do better. Like art lessons! And then I can try again.
