[ most people would see the strange arrivals as an imposition. and loki does to some degree. that being said, he’s more than willing to turn that problem into a business opportunity. show that he’s open and welcoming. throw in a little extra money to establish the theater as a prominent spot in this world. the doors are open, fees are reduced. and if you’re not interested in catching a play, you might want to stop by the steps where there are a few vendors selling cotton candy, ice-cream sandwiches and beer to passersby and there are a few street performers there to catch your attention, whether they’re juggling fire balls, doing magic tricks or simply playing a pianoforte on the steps of the opherium. ]

( ii. the curtain rises )

[ for this month, loki is running a bunch of shakespearean plays. hamlet, macbeth, the twelfth night . . . you name it, it’s probably running. during the intermissions, there’s an open bar for you to rub elbows with the other patrons, maybe discuss your favourite part of the play. enjoy the arts so to speak. if you catch the really late night shows, you might find that your favourite plays might . . . turn out a little differently. like the trees are real in macbeth. that the ghosts move through the audience, sending chills down your spine. but the experience is still worth it. or is it?

or perhaps, you might need some alone time after a show, wanting to catch the infamous view of the city from the opherium's balcony. the choice is yours. ]

( iii. something wicked this way comes )

[ the theater keeps up odd hours. its productions run late into the night. and sometimes, you might feel the urge to linger and explore. after all, it’s strange to hear that a god of mischief is running a theater these days. almost suspicious even! so you might be wandering the halls, ears and eyes peeled to hear anything that might be unusual.

and you might just get your wish. a ghostly murmur, the flicker of a shadow against the pane of glass, statues that seem to be unnerving with their gaze upon you . . . is there something really there or are you just imagining things? ]

Did you just move into the city?

Yeah. Apparently everyone else who's here from my world came through months ago, so... I'm still kind of playing catch up.

[ There's so much about this world, about the future, that she still has to learn. ]

[ hmm. ]

How many people showed up? From your reality?

There's four others, besides me.

[ ... ]

Well, five, if you count the fact that somehow there's two different versions of Eddie.

Oooh, yikes. I hope they don't battle for domination.

[ speaking from . . . experience. ]

Yeah... One of them somehow turned himself into a vampire? But the other one is back from the dead, so... Hard to say who wins that fight.

[ Her life is so strange...

Belatedly, she realizes she probably should introduce herself. ]

I'm Robin, by the way. Robin Buckley.

Kyle Rayner. And I do not envy . . . whatever is going on with your friend's group.

[ he's never dealt with vampires. monsters, sure. but not vampires. that seems messy. ]

[ She laughs. ]

It's nice to meet you, Kyle. And yeah... I don't blame you.

Are you ready to be in the middle of all that?

Honestly...? It's weird, but it's not that different a brand of weird as the weird we've got going on back home. I think I'll be alright.

What's the kind of weird you're used to? If you don't mind me asking.

[ Robin sighs, looking off into the middle distance. How the heck does one describe all the weird shit that goes on in Hawkins? ]

Parallel shadow dimension that's full of demonic hive mind monsters that keep trying to invade the real world and kill everyone?

Oh, and there was the secret Russian military base underneath the town mall, trying to open up a gate to the aforementioned shadow dimension.

[ so somewhere on the sliding scale of normal for kyle. at least. ]

I don't know about shadow dimensions, but we have heroes who deal with that kind of stuff. Maybe it's just foreshadowing for your amazing heroic arc.

[ She chuckles. ]

We only have the one superhero. The rest of us are just her sidekicks.

[ But El isn't always around when the bad stuff goes down, so they make do on their own. ]

Hey, you never know. You could be one step away from superpowers.

[ Robin shrugs. ]

Apparently we all get them here, right? So I guess you're right.

Do you know what your new superpowers are yet? I'm still figuring mine out.

[ oh, uh, think fast. ]

Energy constructs. I think? I'm not really good with super powers.

[ this is somewhat true. after all, kyle never had superpowers. theoretically. ]

So, what, like, you manifest energy into some kind of construct? That sounds pretty cool.

Yeah. Whatever my imagination is into. I'm trying not to go overboard.

At least it sounds like you've got a handle on controlling it. I triggered my power accidentally and didn't even realize I was the one doing it for the longest time.

Well, it probably helps that picturing energy comes easily as an artist. And there's all kinds of heroes running around on my world. It's not hard to pick some things up.

Yeah... I guess in my case, it'll just be one of those "practice makes perfect" type things.

Just make a schedule out of it. Pick an hour once a week and a quiet spot to . . . punch rocks or whatever.
