[ most people would see the strange arrivals as an imposition. and loki does to some degree. that being said, he’s more than willing to turn that problem into a business opportunity. show that he’s open and welcoming. throw in a little extra money to establish the theater as a prominent spot in this world. the doors are open, fees are reduced. and if you’re not interested in catching a play, you might want to stop by the steps where there are a few vendors selling cotton candy, ice-cream sandwiches and beer to passersby and there are a few street performers there to catch your attention, whether they’re juggling fire balls, doing magic tricks or simply playing a pianoforte on the steps of the opherium. ]

( ii. the curtain rises )

[ for this month, loki is running a bunch of shakespearean plays. hamlet, macbeth, the twelfth night . . . you name it, it’s probably running. during the intermissions, there’s an open bar for you to rub elbows with the other patrons, maybe discuss your favourite part of the play. enjoy the arts so to speak. if you catch the really late night shows, you might find that your favourite plays might . . . turn out a little differently. like the trees are real in macbeth. that the ghosts move through the audience, sending chills down your spine. but the experience is still worth it. or is it?

or perhaps, you might need some alone time after a show, wanting to catch the infamous view of the city from the opherium's balcony. the choice is yours. ]

( iii. something wicked this way comes )

[ the theater keeps up odd hours. its productions run late into the night. and sometimes, you might feel the urge to linger and explore. after all, it’s strange to hear that a god of mischief is running a theater these days. almost suspicious even! so you might be wandering the halls, ears and eyes peeled to hear anything that might be unusual.

and you might just get your wish. a ghostly murmur, the flicker of a shadow against the pane of glass, statues that seem to be unnerving with their gaze upon you . . . is there something really there or are you just imagining things? ]

Yeah, prison or death is unfortunately a common thing for the likes of us.

Even if neither can really stop us for long.

.....I'm sorry, death doesn't stop you?

I... um... yeah. I've died. At least once for real.

But I was resurrected. Somebody didn't think my time was done.

[doctopoda]

[my guy. what the fuck.]

...I'm told I was supposed to die in my original timeline, but it never actually happened as far as I'm concerned. People in my world don't just...come back from that.

[Beck's shoulders hunch up a bit and he visibly shudders, looking downward as he speaks next.]

You never know. It could have happened in your world too. I can't go into all the details... but after I died, I went to... some sort of Hell. It was everything terrible you can imagine about such a place. But the demons weren't done with me there. They sent me back and I had to... follow certain orders. I tried to get away but it's not something you can easily escape.

[He pauses a moment and continues after a wry chuckle.]

At once point they tried to convince me I had just gone insane... but I know better.

[doctopoda]

[Holy shit? Several of the actuators turn to look at Beck as well, as he relates this particular story. There was a time when Otto might have thought the man insane himself, but he's seen too much magical bullshit now.]

What happened?

[at least, it sounds like the demon situation is past tense?]

[He appears hesitant.]

What part do you want to know more about?

Are you doing better now?

[Really, anything beyond that is immaterial, in his opinion. Of course he's curious, but he's curious about a lot of things in other universes. No reason to demand explanations.]

[That does bring a smile to Beck's face. And he nods.]

I was. After... everything, I was making my movie. I had my script and we had everything shot and were about to go into marketing and then... I found myself here. So back home... things were going pretty well.

I wish I knew if everything was still going well. I got pulled away when everything was on the up, you know? It's like somebody doesn't want me to succeed.

[doctopoda]

[Otto returns the smile, though it's a little pained. Demons or not, it does sound like Beck's had a rough time of it. Sometimes he feels a little odd sympathizing with the man - given their main point in common is "Spider-Man supervillain" - but he's trying to do better. Far be it from Otto, of all people, to deny him that.]

Well, interdimensional travel being what it is, I don't see why you couldn't return at the same moment you left. You can still get back to it.

In the meanwhile, I suppose we have to make the most of what we have going on here.

[doctopoda]

I suppose so.

[Otto expects he'll return here, presuming he manages to evade whatever death was meant to claim him originally. But no need to dwell on that right now.]

What productions do you have coming up?

Seems to be Shakespeare season. Different plays. Loki's gone all out with the Shakespeare.

Ah! I haven't met that specific Loki yet, but he does seem like the type.

[There's a million Lokis and half of them seem to know Otto from somewhere or other. It's a tad disconcerting.]

Maybe I'll go and see some.

[It's honestly not exactly his thing. But Rosie would have liked it.]

Yeah, there are a few of them around.

[Beck chuckles.]

You should. Loki does some magic but any practical effects, I'm handling.
